The company of humour - part I
23 September 2011 to 18 December 2011
An exhibition project in search of the appearances of humour in the viusal arts'
As usual Lokaal 01 Breda hosts another experimental exhibition project the coming months. The Company of Humour is a dynamic exhibition in collaboration with Lieven Segers, Belgian artist who is working on a PhD in the Arts for which he researches the impact and the role of humour in the artistic language.
What appearances does humour have in contemporary art? How does it behave and function within the artistic field? What is Humour a host for? Humor is fragile to research for it easily loses its magic and aim when it's being analyzed. The analysis of humour is a maze. In his research, Segers doesn't want to harm the subject itself. This is why all methods of research and its results will be brought to live in a dynamic way. Everything will be part of the active and public artistic practice of himself as an artist. All acts and activities in the frame of this research will be categorized as active artistic works and will also relate to the visitor in that way.
During the first opening on 23 September at 20.00 we will present a starting arrangement with works loaned from the museum S.M.A.K. in Ghent (Belgium). This presentation, will show work of
Richard Artschwager – Orla Barry – Fred Bervoets – Guillaume Bijl – Jacques Charlier – Jimmie Durham – Michel François – Martin Kippenberger – Walter Swennen.
In the time that follows, this arrangement will be altered, changed and critisized several times. But especially it will be open during this whole process. Hans Theys, Piet Dirkx, Johan Pas, Bart Van Dijck and Lieven Segers will all be interfering from their own background.
At the end of the project a limited edition cassette with all findings will be created. Should you be interested in one of these, mail fleur@lokaal01.nl.
